Shoe Frustration

I can never seem to draw shoes right from a straight on view.  They always look messed up in the end.  I don't know what happens, my brain just kind of can't register it or something and I just end up drawing shoes that look like ballerina flats.  They look like they don't even have shoes.  They have stubbed feet.  For example:
